Texas Tech Club

Image
(This is a picture of Matthew and I a month before we started dating in 2009. I think we look ridiculous. And I look ugh, yuck, poopy, granted it was June in Houston and ridiculously HOT!) We had an appointment to meet with the events coordinator at the Texas Tech Club today. (Shame on whoever made that appointment prematurely!) Let's just say we looked at a big room with tables and chairs in it. For nothing special. Just like to look at big, empty rooms... And it was fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed envisioning what could potentially go down in that big, empty room. And talking plans, and dates, and food, and wine... It was dreamy... I think I'll enjoy this role when it's my time to take it on! And since Matthew is a devoted b/f and reads all my blogs, I have to be very careful what I say. (Thanks for coming today, honey! I loved your input and how you took notes and asked questions and ordered a Jack on the rocks over lunch. Very Humphrey Bogart of you.) I'm laughing a

Ten Commandments Memorization

I have one million...and one...plans going through my head, but I am working very hard to keep them at bay until a certain thing happens first. I know, I'm being very vague, but I have also been working on NOT talking about this subject everywhere that I can b/c people say mean things and give me mean looks and my very sensitive little girl feelers couldn't handle it anymore. But...all shall be revealed in due time! So, next is my new obsession. The Lose IT! app. You can set a goal weight, a timeline, and then keep track of all your caloric intake and exercises throughout the day. It's quite fun and wonderful and addicting! Oh, and it's free! My 2 favorite quotes from the past few days: Walker: "Let's listen to GiGi, Addi. Remember, honor your father and mother. And your aunts." (Cutest nephew ever!) Matthew: "Trust me. It will be brilliant." So, I trust and wait and plan secretly and enjoy my life as it is. wonderful.

I strongly DISLIKE Heidi Montag

Image
Ya know, I've never watched whatever show Heidi Montag was on. I don't even know how she got famous except for her very recent OVERLY LARGE flotation devices she implanted along with a dozen other unnecessary procedures, but I'm pretty sure I haven't been a fan of hers for a while. This morning didn't help. "I work out 14 hours a day." was posted on the front page of YAHOO. My first thought was, "Oh, poor girl, she's vain AND she can't count." But when I read the article, she said it's true. She's been working out from 5 AM 'til 7 PM for the last 2 months getting ready for a... get ready for it... POOL PARTY. She felt she had gotten so FAT (which was an astonishing 130 pounds!) b/c she hadn't worked out for a year after her multiple procedures, but thank goodness she is now down to 103. I know, I was relieved too. OK, enough of that. I really don't have a lot more to say. Oh, except that Matt and I found a lovely find

"Burger" Boy

Image
How odd. I just noticed that my butt isn't near as sore today as it was yesterday, and I even did a 2nd Spin class yesterday... That's strange. Anywho, my 2nd attempt at Spin was BRUTAL! The instructor looked AWESOME, and wanted all of us to look AWESOME as well, I guess, b/c she worked us to the bone. I guess "Never trust a skinny cook" goes the same for fitness instructors, "Never trust a fat instructor." Is that rude? Sorry if it is! But you get what I'm saying, right? Walker visited me at work today. I love that he enjoys visiting GiGi at the office so much even if it only means that he gets to sit on the couch eating candy and watching "Pink Nanther". (That's "Panther" for those of you who don't speak 5-year-old boy.) At one point he was sitting on the edge of the couch looking very uncomfortable. I said, "What's up, bud?" To which he answered my sticking out his pointer finger at me and saying, "I'

Spin Fever!

I am so proud of myself! After years of writing it on my New Year's Resolution sheet, I have finally attended my first ever Spin class! (And this is not at all what I look like in the pic, but would definitely like to!) I had so many great "instructors" around me telling me how high the seat should be, where the handlebars should be, how sore I would be today, etc. (And yes, I am incredibly aware of my tailbone today!) It was a lot of information, but one thing I failed to catch on to was how the gear works, so after messing with it for the first 20 minutes of class, I finally figured out that Righty was Tighty! After that, the class was brutal! I, clearly, had brought a towel 3 sizes too small and will need to invest in a beach towel next time to catch the torrent of sweat dripping from my body! Oh, and a water bottle with a lid that snaps open easily is NOT a good idea in the event it falls to the ground and soaks your neighbors gym bag. Just sayin'. But I LOVED the

TGIM???

Well, as quickly as the weekend came, it has passed again. It was a really lovely weekend, if I must say so myself. On Friday, I was on my way to the gym to be a good, little girl, and then I saw a very menacing storm heading towards Lbk. So, I moved all my plants in and stayed home to avoid the hail. And then the sky spit on us and the storm ended. Very disappointing. On Saturday, Matthew & I went to the Wine & Clay Festival where we were "Spotted". I bought a lovely windchime/glass art thing and Matthew bought me a lovely ring. He said, "Now we're engaged!" I said, "It's on the wrong finger..." And later that day, after singing at church, we cooked out at Ramon & Rainnie's and watched the kids pour water all over each other. Then Sunday morning church was followed by a day at the pool with new friends and old friends, and we had a grand ole time. Matt was LOVING holding Baby Ryder. As sweet as it was, it was a little disconcerting

It's the Weekend!!!!!!

Image
Wow, this week passed by so quickly! And now it's the weekend! And I LOOOOOOVE the weekends! This one should be especially eventful. I shall try my utmost to work out tonight and tomorrow morning and then I'll be able to feel less guilty about eating crap which usually happens on the wknd. Why does it work like that? And Matt & I are attending the Llano Wine & Clay Festival tomorrow which should be lovely! And I'll be singing on praise team this weekend. And we'll be hanging out with family enjoying laughing children, VERY warm weather, Bar-B-Q, and cold drinks. Oh, and Matt just found out his very best friend in the whole world is moving back to Lubbock with his lovely wife and baby in the oven! He is beside himself with joy; therefore, I am as well! Happy Weekend to all of you!

Meredith Vierra

Image
(This is a very old picture of me taken by the lovely, Ali Formby. It reminds me of when I had great hair and a best friend who was dating a very bad person. I love this picture.) Yesterday was a very normal day which I was very grateful for. Normal days force me to recount what I did and think of something truly inspirational to blog about. I came up with nothing. Except that I watched the farewell to Meredith Vierra Today show last night. I sat and cried for at least an hour. 1. Because I missed Matt and wasn't going to see him yet again. 2. I have loved MV since the first day she was on Today 5 years ago. 3. Their farewell show to her was incredibly touching. 4. Sometimes I'm just emotional. So, now I must get used to them announcing, "This is TODAY with Matt Lauer and Ann Curry." It'll take time. Oh, and my cousin cleaned my house yesterday. Let's all take a collective SIIIIIIIIIIGH of relief that I don't have to clean this week. Ok, you don't have

In the World of Softball

Image
I love going to Matt's softball games. I love cheering, "Go, babe! Hit a home run!" I try not to cheer anything else b/c baseball has it's own lingo which I never get right. And then the other guys on the team will mimic me and cheer for "Babe" too. I love that Matt is on a team with 2 of my real brothers and 2 of my adopted brothers and countless other men from church. Good men. Men that laugh at funny jokes and walk away from crude jokes. Men who would probably rather stay home with their devoted wives and play with their children than play a double-header on a Monday night. When I think of things that I want to change about Matt (yes, even I do that. I think it's inherent in all women, unfortunately), then I remember how Matt is so much more than I thought I wanted. One of the biggest things is that he's never met a stranger. Just like my Dad.

Tent City, USA

Image
My Dad had an ingenious plan. "Tailgating with the Homeless" I think I laughed when I first pictured a bunch of homeless people hunched around our motor home outside of the Jones AT&T Stadium during football season. But Dad had a different idea. He drove the bus down to Tent City on 13th & Ave. A last night complete with burgers, hot dogs, chips, bookoos of Coke and a TV airing the NBA Finals Game #3. IT WAS A HIT!!! I actually had a lot of fun. Here's what I learned last night: 1. It was very weird listening to Matt answer one man's question, "What do ya'll do?" b/c Matt's answer was, "Well, I'm an attorney, Jennifer owns a construction co. with her bros, Josh is an accountant, Jonathan is a banker, Tony is a police officer, etc." 2. Homeless people don't smell bad. At least not from the distance I kept. 3. They are really curious and ask lots of questions. 4. They used to be investment brokers, mothers, bankers... 5. Some
