3-Month Check-up

Image
Before Matt & I got married, we were divinely blessed to have been mentored by Dana & Casey Brewer. I grew up with Dana at Trinity and while I was convinced she was supposed to marry at least one of my brothers, it just wasn't meant to be. They spoke so much Godly wisdom and truth into our lives during the 4 months we were engaged, and we attribute much of our smooth transition into married life to them. We covered everything from childhood trauma to how to cope with sleeping in the same bed when one person snores (and that one person is NOT me!) We were also blessed to have Casey officiate our ceremony in the most beautiful way possible. We still have people comment on how anointed our ceremony was, and boy did we feel it! It was like we were in a worship service the whole time. And, I guess, we were. Anyway, we had our 3-month "check-up" with them last night, and we were proud to pass with flying colors! The most difficult thin...

What I've Learned in A Month of Marriage

Image
Morning after the wedding on our way to Cancun. I really can't express how incredibly happy I am being married. Some women have always wanted a career, others want to be mothers from the time they're children... I've always wanted to be married. Tapas Dinner I've never felt lonely or overwhelmingly dejected in my childhood, so I can't quite explain why I've always looked forward to marriage, but I think the idea of always having companionship, someone who ENJOYS being around you so much that they decided to make a public declaration that they would never leave you, the idea of someone knowing me inside and out and never giving up on me... Maybe it's because it's the closest form of comparison to what the Lord is to all His children.  It's the truest form on Earth of how the Lord loves His bridegroom. Spa Day! I was quite scared that since I had looked forward to it so much that I would be sorely disappoint...

Old, married woman talks bliss...

Image
Oh, how my heart is singing! And it sounds just like Christina Aguilerra's version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". Or that just might be what's booming from my iPad right now, but either, way, I share her enthusiasm! Marriage is bliss... I know many of you are rolling yours eyes or closing out this blog or sighing with disgust right now, but what can I say?! Married life is everything I hoped it would be! Granted, we are only one month in, but I've talked to some folks who wanted to kill each other after the first month, and Matthew & I are having such a BLAST! I feel like I've left out so much of my life since my last post and that's why I could never do this blog thing professionally, but here's a summation: Wedding Planning Working Out Counting Calories Picking out bridesmaids accessories Deciding what color shoes the flower girls should wear Reminding my husband to get fitted for his tux every o...

Branson - The Hottest Place on Earth

Image
So, you might have thought Lubbock, TX was the hottest place on earth, but I'm afraid you were mistaken. Branson is definitely hotter. Like 100 degrees and 90% humidity hotter. I felt like my body was used to it though b/c I didn't die. Last week my family headed up to Branson, MO, aka "Vegas for Old People". No offense to older people. And actually, it's gotten a lot better over the last 5 years. The outlets are awesome (especially COACH)! The restaurants are nice. Especially Landry's! And my siblings thoroughly enjoyed their outings to Silver Dollar City. With and without the children. So, we went to Branson for a family reunion and it was really nice. It was a very short trip for Matt & I b/c we only drove down (12 hours) w/ my cousins on Thursday, stayed two days, and then came home. Agh! This is Matt being cute while sleeping. And I had the privilege of staying in the same suite as my two lovely twin nieces who decided 6:30 AM was an appropriate time ...

Wedding Planner in the HOUSE!!!

Image
It has been TOO LONG! And for that I apologize. Apparently, this wedding business is time-consuming. Like, seriously, I feel like I have taken on another full-time job. Thankfully, my brothers are incredibly lenient with when I make appointments b/c they usually end up bring during work hours...Go figure. I have a different view of wedding planning than I did a week ago. A week ago I wanted to be engaged FOREVER b/c I just thought it was so incredibly fun to make all these appointments and talk about my proposal and wedding yada, yada, yada. And then it HIT . Ironically, I'm not sure what "it" was, but I freaked out. I was shaky and nauseous and felt frail and incapacitated. I couldn't complete a work-out session without passing out. I cried at all hours of the day. I couldn't focus on any one thing, and many things hitting at once made me cry again. My head was floating in the clouds somewhere, but not Cloud 9. No, it only stayed on Cloud 9 for 5 days and then it...

Official Proposal Story!!!

Image
So, finally, I will be telling you the wonderful story of how a regular date night turned into the most wonderful night of my life... Buckle in! It's a tear-jerker! Matt had told me earlier in the week that we were going to have Date Night Thursday night. He said he had been grumpy from his cutback on dipping and wanted to make it up to me. (I didn't think he'd been that grumpy, but I love date night, so I didn't argue.) I looked forward to it all week, and then Thursday came around and he sent me a text asking me to wear his favorite B/W sleeved dress. (Oddity #1) He's never asked me to where something before, and I might have complained a bit since it had sleeves and it was a scorching 102 that day! But, I conceded. Then, he said he'd pick me up at 5:45 (Oddity #2). I figured that was a bit early, but I was just happy that Matt was planning our date night out so nicely. So, I had been wanting to get off work a bit early that day, but it just wasn't so. The...
