YES! It is actually me! I think I'm going to stop apologizing when I'm unexpectedly absent from blogging for weeks on end. You'll just have to be OK with reading my intermittent blogs. Please?! OK. I feel better now. So, there's actually been a whole big lot going on in my life this summer. That's part of the reason for the absence. There was so much I wanted to write about, but I've learned that my personality type likes to complete things- not leave them spinning around in the atmosphere. I think, in my head, I didn't want to write about the process of what was going on, and just catch everybody up when we were done. That's, obviously, the exact opposite of the point of blogging, and by the time the task is complete, there's way too much to catch up on that I inevitably just get overwhelmed and write about nothing at all. Just 'cause he's so darn cute!!! Since this has been such a life-changing, marr...

92% Sure I'm Right

Good marriages are hard to make. I know I'm no expert only 7 months in. But I'm fortunate to have at least a little experience under my belt. With all the differences in communication and habits and personalities and hormones (probably more mine than his), it's a given that two people trying their darnest to make their marriage the best possible is going to be difficult. What really gets to me is that Satan knows this too. He didn't have to have a Mrs. Devil to figure out where to target us. And while we are constantly working to respect each other and uplift each other and put the other person first, Satan is working his hardest to make our words stab each other to make us doubt each other and to point out why we should get our own way. I wasn't as aware of this spiritual struggle until recently. You see, in the first few months of marriage,  you don't understand why everyone out there says marriage is hard. You, honestly think your marri...

Arguments of Newlyweds

I feel like Matt & I are far enough removed from our most momentous arguments to divulge them to you. Don't worry, we don't argue about anything meaningful. That often aggravates Matt more than the argument itself. I just say, "At least our fights are over stupid stuff instead of really big, bad stuff." Like when Matt said, "You're stupid." in a silly, sing-song tone of voice. I blew up over that one and locked myself in my room for a good 45 minutes, and then proceeded to come into the living room, not to apologize, but to gripe him out for not apologizing first. That was a good one. And then the other day, I was emptying the dishwasher while he came into the kitchen and put his cup in the sink. I looked at him with that look that says, "You're not really going to put that cup in the sink when the dishwasher is open and receiving dirty dishes, are you?" You know that look, ladies. That proceeded into an argument that...

You have to see what my man did for Valentine's!

Image
Let's start my recollection of Valentine's Day activities with an unintentional concussion on my husband's part  due to a lamp falling unceremoniously smack-dab onto his forehead. Later that morning as he drove to work, he called a doctor-friend who said he needed a CAT Scan and should absolutely NOT drive. Matt promptly turned around and came home calling in sick for the day which gave him ample time to spoil his wife! He's fine now, did NOT go in for a CAT Scan, and stayed out of the car the rest of the day. But I got to reap the benefits of an overly bored husband on Valentine's! Came home to flowers, candles, music, card, massage gift card, and an impromptu dance in the kitchen. We had a lovely lunch together at home, and while venturing into the bathroom  to re-apply my makeup, I found this sweetness on the mirror: "Proverbs 31 An excellent wife...Who can find?! Her worth is far above jewels. To my most precious treasure....

3-Month Check-up

Image
Before Matt & I got married, we were divinely blessed to have been mentored by Dana & Casey Brewer. I grew up with Dana at Trinity and while I was convinced she was supposed to marry at least one of my brothers, it just wasn't meant to be. They spoke so much Godly wisdom and truth into our lives during the 4 months we were engaged, and we attribute much of our smooth transition into married life to them. We covered everything from childhood trauma to how to cope with sleeping in the same bed when one person snores (and that one person is NOT me!) We were also blessed to have Casey officiate our ceremony in the most beautiful way possible. We still have people comment on how anointed our ceremony was, and boy did we feel it! It was like we were in a worship service the whole time. And, I guess, we were. Anyway, we had our 3-month "check-up" with them last night, and we were proud to pass with flying colors! The most difficult thin...

Being Met

Back from Cancun!!!! And it was wonderful! I will dedicate a whole post to it later this week complete with pictures. Today's blog is all about excitement in new opportunities with my husband. Two weeks ago, we heard an announcement in church that Life Groups were about to start. We have been wanting to join one for a while. Although I've attended Trinity for 23 years, I know only one or two other newly married couples. So sad! One of the downfalls of a massive church! Anyway, we talked to the information desk after service to see how we could connect with  other couples in our age group, newly married or engaged, maybe no kids... There really wasn't anything. Really?! In a church with thousands of members?! Surely this was an area of need that wasn't being met! We responded with volunteering to lead a group ourselves if there wasn't one, and talk about God opening the door immediately to a new chapter in our married life! We quick...

Old married woman now

Image
So, yesterday was Matt & my 2-month anniversary! Happy Anniversary to us! And yes, it has been magical, wonderful, frustrating, invigorating, and beautiful all at once! Unfortunately, we were both home sick for the day yesterday. Well, he stayed home. I made it at work 'till 3:30, then called it quits. We were pathetic with me laying in bed and him laying on the couch watching our prospective shows for  hours and hours and hours on end. We were on a walk with the dogs the other day, and our little tradition is to evaluate our relationship while walking the dogs. 1. This tradition started when we were dating. 2. We don't walk the dogs often; therefore, we're able to evaluate our  relationship a couple months at a time. I would suggest NOT doing this if walking your dogs is a daily activity. We asked each other what we've learned about marriage that we didn't expect. Honestly, I don't remember waht he said.  Something along...

5-year-olds make Christmas better.

Image
One thing I forgot to mention during our very productive weekend was the fact that my dear, sweet, handsome husband stayed up 'till 3 AM organizing the laundry room and "wedding room" as we have dubbed the catch-all room of wedding gifts, decor, scrapbook, memorabilia, etc. He said he knew I'd like to have it in order for the family coming over the next day. Then, on the way home from church, I asked if he could clean off the front porch, but NO, he had already done that in the wee hours of the morning as well! Sometimes his insomnia is a blessing. This morning, Walker, my 5-year-old nephew, sang with his fellow kindergartners at the mall, so naturally, Dad and I skipped work to go see him. One of his sweet classmates handed me a Christmas card that he had colored. I don't know this child from Adam, but he must've thought I needed Jesus. He was right.  Courtney is such a trooper! Walking around the mall looking as cute as a button pushing a ...

What do Pinwheels, Linen Closets and Santa Dogs have in common?

If you feel like you're weekend was unproductive and are kicking yourself for it this morning,  then this blog will not make you feel any better. Matt & I have been busy little beavers ever since we've gotten married 6 weeks ago. We made a list Friday morning of all the stuff we wanted to get accomplished this weekend,  and I'm proud to say I checked all but one thing off my list! Wrap gifts. Blast. Still have to do that. Thursday, his firm took us to eat at Harrigan's followed by drinks and dessert at the Ziegler's lovely home in Vintage complete with a gift exchagne.  They always give the BEST gifts! Last year I got to pick out the iPod speakers. This year Matt chose an XBox, and despite all my coaxing to the other employees no one bought it from us. I'm incredibly fearful of acquiring a video-game fanatic husband now. Fantasy Football takes up enough time... Then, Friday we had a lovely soup dinner at our friends, the Berrys, ...

Holiday Productivity

Image
I can't remember a more serene, perfect weather, productive weekend in quite some time. I admit, I would've gotten NOTHING done without the help of my proactive man. It was overcast outside, low-30s, drizzly, the fire was going (a surprise from Matthew when I returned from the gym), and I was going to shower, change into my sweats and sit on the couch watching Dateline. (Might not be your idea of entertainment, but I can't get enough of those dramatic phrases issuing from Keith Morrison's deep, sultry voice.) But Matt comes home from breakfast with his bestie and tackles the junk cabinet above the washer/dryer. That has been the "catch-all" for the 3 1/2 years I've lived in my house, and I had no intention of cleaning it out anytime soon. But when the OCD hits him, watch out! Productivity ensues. So, after 3-4 hours, it was all cleaned out and organized into small compartments in his new handy, dandy tool box. (Isn't that from Dora? Or is ...

Old, married woman talks bliss...

Image
Oh, how my heart is singing! And it sounds just like Christina Aguilerra's version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". Or that just might be what's booming from my iPad right now, but either, way, I share her enthusiasm! Marriage is bliss... I know many of you are rolling yours eyes or closing out this blog or sighing with disgust right now, but what can I say?! Married life is everything I hoped it would be! Granted, we are only one month in, but I've talked to some folks who wanted to kill each other after the first month, and Matthew & I are having such a BLAST! I feel like I've left out so much of my life since my last post and that's why I could never do this blog thing professionally, but here's a summation: Wedding Planning Working Out Counting Calories Picking out bridesmaids accessories Deciding what color shoes the flower girls should wear Reminding my husband to get fitted for his tux every o...
